Fall Tree & Shrub Maintenance

10/23/2019

There are several good reasons why people should do tree trimming and shrub trimming during the fall. Once the leaves fall off of trees and shrubs, it is much easier to do any necessary trimming and pruning. When there are no more leaves on trees and shrubs, it is easier to see which branches to trim or totally cut off. This is when all the dead branches are noticeable and can be taken care of.

Besides taking off the dead branches, there are branches which grow in different directions and cross other branches. These branches should be trimmed to make the trees and shrubs look better. If crossing branches are left where they are at, the shrubs and trees would look overgrown and eventually not grow right.

Tree trimming, shrub trimming, and pruning are good to do any season, but doing it in the fall is easier. The leaves die and fall off in the fall season, which makes it easier to see which branches need to be trimmed and at what point in the branch it needs to be done. Once the branches are trimmed in the right spot, the shrubs and trees will look better in the spring when the leaves grow back.

It is important to trim and prune trees and shrubs so they get the proper amount of sunlight. When trees and shrubs only get sunlight in certain areas, but not all areas, then they will grow in spots and not in other spots. This would make the tress and shrubs look misshapen. They need the proper amount of sunlight all around them to grow properly.

By trimming trees and shrubs properly it will help the air circulate around them better. The better the air circulation around them will also mean they will receive the proper amount of water from rain and sprinkles all over. Shrubs and trees grow better when they receive water and air circulation around them.

If the homeowner or business owner does not know how to properly trim and prune their shrubs and trees, Lexington Lawncare Services will be glad to stop by and help out. Lexington Lawncare Services has years of experience at tree trimming, shrub trimming, and pruning, among other services. They will give an estimate before they do any work on the property. The homeowner or business owner will be happy with the way their shrubs and trees look once the lawncare service is done.

Keeping Your Soil Healthy During The Winter

10/4/2019

Lawn care during the cooler fall and winter months can be a little more tricky than during other parts of the year. This is because the tiny living micronisms that live in the soil and keep it healthy start to slow down when the temperatures are 45 degrees Farenheight or cooler. Basically this means that these organisms crawl to a snail's pace and go into a hibernation of sorts during the winter like much of the other animals in nature. With this type of thinking, it goes to mean that soil health must get worse during the winter and there is nothing that can be done about it, However, there are a few lawn care tips like lawn fertilization that can keep your soil in tip-top health all winter long. Follow these tips put out by lawn companies like Lexington lawn care and watch your soil health flourish all cold season long.

1.) Cultivate your soil at the right time.
Lawn companies like Lexington lawn care recommend waiting to cultivate your soil until the time is right. Unless you are planning on getting your lawn ready for an early Spring garden, then you really have no reason to till the soil until it gets warmer. Instead of turning over the soil in the fall, just put mulch over your flower beds without cultivating. The only disturbance that should come to them is when you pull up weeds.

2.) Use the right mulch for winter
Leaves are a great natural mulch that keeps the soil safe and warm naturally, so you can finally let yourself off the hook and stop raking up those pesky leaves and let them do their job in protecting your soil. If you would prefer a more sophisticated looking mulch, wood chips are also a great option! Whatever keeps the soil warm so that the micronisms can continue to keep it healthy and thriving.

3.) Grow things that grow in winter
Growing crops in the winter such as winter grains is a great idea as they help keep your soil from eroding during the winter. Meanwhile, once the crops take root they help increase the organic matter in the soil which keeps it healthy all winter and ready to plant new crops when spring comes around.

4.) try not to pull weeds in the winter
Winter weeds are not large and aggressive like the ones that take over the yard in summer and spring months. The smaller winter weeds are actually nice greenery that when left alone helps to cover and therefore protect the soil from getting too cold. Do your best to leave them be and let them protect your soil in the winter and hoe them up when spring arrives.

Soil does not have to experience any kind of corrosion or hibernation during the winter, it can actually thrive and have all of its micro-organisms continue to live and keep the soil healthy and ready for the Spring crop if you protect it and do your lawn fertilization the right way.
